'Ala al-Din 'Alam Shah

'Ala al-Din 'Alam Shah
(?-1476)
A sultan of the Saiyid dynasty who came to the throne of Delhi on the death of his father, Sultan Muhammad Shah (1434-1445). Faced with the general defiance of the central authority by the nobles and the impertinence of the ministers running the central government, he went to Badaun in 1448 and expressed a desire to stay there permanently. The nobles at Delhi rose against ministers loyal to the sultan and summoned the Afghan chief Bahlul Lodi from the Punjab to assume the reins of the government. Bahlul Lodi, even after formally proclaiming himself a sultan, did not disturb 'Ala al-Din 'Alam Shah in Badaun. 'Ala al-Din continued to govern Badaun and the surrounding territory until the time of his death in 1476.
